Who We Are

The Tokyo Sail & Power Squadron is the Tokyo branch of the United States Power Squadrons, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to recreational boating and safety.

USPS teaches boating safety courses to the general public, as well as a wide variety of maritime navigation and skill courses to its own members.

The TSPS has been a reliable source of English-language information on boating and sailing in Japan for over four decades.

It's held every first Wednesday of the month. Be sure to click here for the latest information about where and when the next Keelhaul is.

What We Do

  • Public boating safety courses for new boaters or others wanting to brush up their knowledge of maritime rules and safety measures
  • Japanese Class 1 & 2 Boat License test preparation courses in English. This license is necessary for operation of small powered watercraft in Japan, including cruisers and sailboats with engines.
  • Monthly and annual boating-related Events & Activities
  • Networking with expatriate and Japanese sailors

Who Can Join?

Anyone in Japan with an interest in safe sailing or motorboating. Potential members can be of any nationality and should speak English. After joining, new members can sign up for one of our basic boating courses or for a prep class for the English version of the class 1 or 2 Japanese Boat Operator License exame given twice a year.
